Music makes my world go round, go the lyrics of a popular number. Whether you agree or not, one things for sure it sure has TRPs centring round it, going by the amount of screen space music reality shows are taking up these days. Tune into any channel, and you find young Lata or Rafi wannabes crooning away for a shot at the much-coveted titles.
But take a closer look, and its not difficult to find the common thread that binds the shows together.
Right from a Debojit Saha, Ruprekha Banerjee and a Prashant Tamang, to an Aneek Dhar and Sanchita Bhattacharya, contestants from the East have earned crooning glory for this part of the world. And that the East is considered a powerhouse of talent, is evident from what music director and judge of a popular reality show, Pritam, has to say, Youngsters here grow up in a culturally rich atmosphere. In every home, there is encouragment to take up some kind of an art form, unlike in other cities. The right platform and parental support, along with proper grooming, is the secret of their success. Echoing his views, is singer and judge Kailash Kher, who points out that most contestants from the East have music in their genes. There is a natural nasha in their voices. They come from places with strong cultural roots and most start young. So by the time they reach the bigger arena, they get a chance to hone their skills further and with the right exposure, they turn out to be delightful singers, taking home all the laurels. No wonder judge and actor Kharaj Mukherjee observes, Some of them are so good, that one wouldnt know its their first time on a public platform. So, it came as no suprise when Pantaloons Rocking Singer chose to come calling to the City of Joy exclusively on January 3. And amidst shouts of cheer and loads of excitement, the unique store-based reality show had the final six contestants giving their best shot for the big title. Judged by eminent personalities like music director Prabuddha Banerjee and actors Arindam Ganguly and Kharaj Mukherjee, the event that was one unique combination of talent and entertainment, had Biplab Chakraborty clinching the grand title. With excitement writ large on his face, Biplab was all smiles as he quipped, When I first auditioned for Pantaloons Rocking Singer, I knew it would be a tough fight, but I cant believe that I have won. Its purely hard work, dedication and focus that have paid off. I thank Pantaloons for giving me this opportunity and its a day in my life that I shall always cherish. Looks like singers from the East are all set to rock on for many more years to come!
